El día que mataron al líder

“Una isla de descanso en un mar de fatiga”

Con esta frase de Naguib Mahfuz os pongo este libro cortito en el blog, como una forma de hacer "novillos" de mi trabajo.

“El día que mataron al líder”. Ese líder no es otro que Anwar Al-Sadat, presidente que fue venerado en occidente, pero no tanto en oriente.

Con este libro, a través de 3 personajes : el nieto, la novia del nieto, y el abuelo, nos adentramos en el Egipto del año 1981, fecha en que Anwar Al-Sadat fue asesinado. En el que podríamos resumir la visión que el libro da, con el siguiente párrafo:

“El difunto presidente (se refiere a Nasser) con su derrota (la del Sinaí) es más grande que éste (Anwar Al-Sadat) con su victoria” “Somos un pueblo que reposa en la derrota más que en la victoria” “amamos las canciones tristes, el teatro dramático y al héroe caído. Todos nuestros líderes han sido víctimas: Mustafá Kamil, víctima de la lucha y la enfermedad: Muhammad Farid, víctima del exilio; Saad Zaglul, víctima del exilio también; Mustafá Al-Nahás, víctima de la persecución; Yamal, víctima del 5 de junio. En cuanto a éste (se refiere a Anwar Al-Sadat), el vencedor que se pavonea, es la excepción de la regla. Nos ha desafiado con su victoria, ha arrojado en nuestros corazones sensaciones, emociones nuevas a las que no aspirábamos….. ha aprovechado la victoria en beneficio propio y con su “apertura”, sólo nos ha dejado miseria y corrupción”


Nos cuenta la dureza de la vida de ese tiempo, el propio nieto dice “perdí a mis padres cuando se perdieron a sí mismos trabajando sin parar de la mañana a la noche…. No hay tiempo para filosofías”

Me encanta el personaje del abuelo, ese abuelo de más de 80 años, testigo de la evolución de su país. Que dice:

En su faceta entrañable y compasiva “…..Por fin me aparto de mis pensamientos para despertar a los que duermen . Yo soy el despertador de esta agobiada familia.. Afortunadamente todavía sirvo para algo, a pesar de que soy viejo….” Cuando va a despertar a su nieto dice “Me flaquean las fuerzas al tener que sacarlo del apacible mundo para traerlo al infierno. Susurro con el corazón rebosante de ternura hacia él y hacia los que son de su edad: Alwan…. despierta”

Me encanta, por su prudencia, el consejo a su nieto: “No tengo derecho a forjar tu destino. Yo pertenezco a otro mundo, y no es prudente someter a un mundo a las reglas de otro”

Dice sobre la muerte: “a los 80 años se espera la llegada de un invitado que no ofrece ninguna duda” “¿Por qué pensamos que existe en el mundo alguna realidad, aparte de la muerte? La muerte es él, el auténtico dictador” “Es verdad que mi vida ha sido larga; no obstante, en esta hora me parece un momento fugaz”

Es un libro cálido, que a pesar de las dificultades del entorno retrata a unos personajes en sus valores positivos y en ese sentido, tiene un final feliz.

  1. Sorprende lo de un pueblo acostumbrado a la derrota, y más, cito: " el haber arrojado a nuestros corazones sensaciones, emociones nuevas a las que no aspirábamos ". Estos corazones orientales teñidos de fatalismo, esa necesidad de redimirse en el sufrimiento, en la sangre. Tendría que hablarte de una experiencia reciente en el intramundo de los sentimientos de gente del Magreb. Me interesa esta reseña, palpearé el libro.
